I have found that when my dog is following his nose, the collar sags, so it will not work (he will not feel the buzz or shock) so i tighten it one or two more than i thought necessary when putting it on.

Use voice commands first, and then a buzz so that eventually you only have to use your voice and he will remember what has happened if he does not listen.

The shock is very strong, goes up to 100 we only have it on 2-5.
