Pros

For backcountry hikes and wilderness survival both of these knives are great. The knife is a beast and my new survival set up is just what i was looking for. If you want to hike in the woods, this is the knife for you.

If you like hefty, thick and purpose built hardware this is the one to get. Amazon is the easiest and safest way to shop.

It shaves feather curls, it hacks as good as any hatchet of equal weight, it carves, it slices. But where it really shines is in sharpness. Is very easy to get back to surgically sharp with just about any sharpening method.

The kydex itself is thicker than that used on my gun-holster, therefore it is very rugged. Weight of this knife is around 16 oz, which makes it good for chopping. The only draw back is it's a heavy knife, tipping the scales at 1 lbs. That is of utmost... Read More

I personally think that logo makes this knife look - for lack of a better term - badass. I'm a firm believer in full tang knives and this one is impressive. My esee 4 has been in and out of snow and water and has been scraped up.

The ergonomics highly outweigh the loss of a tiny amount of non slip grip

All in all i see this knife as the best all around full tang knife you can buy for less than 150

You should not pay more than 160 or less shipped to you

Completely ridiculous it was 171 for a time now its more expensive than the list price

I can always gripe about price and nearly didnt buy this one because of the price but now am certain i made the right choice

I just received my new esee5 in the mail

Came quickly with sheath and belt clip retention holder

Just received my knife in the mail direct from rat

I took delivery of the esse5 plain edge od w sheath just yesterday

Packaging/appearance

Came ultra shaving sharp out of the box

Came very sharp shaving sharp

Competitiveness

The 5 is extremely stout far more than many other knives i have tested and still very sharp

Ive got other 534ers but this one is twice as massive

I dont know if the ones sold on here are the same as ones sold by other knife outlets

There is also the esee 6 which has a 12 longer blade more practical grind and less weight and it cost less money
