Pros

Every chapter leaves you hopeful and sorely disappointed in all the right ways. Wanted to get part 2 right away, but dang it, have to wait until march 2024. Misterkristoff masterfully writes about difficult, heartbreaking events.

Incredibly well written. The audiobook is fun. I’ve pretty much read everything vampire, sci-fi, and dark romance.

The plot reminds me very much of the witcher with geralt, yennifer and siri.

The story unfolds as gabriel de leon relives his tale to his captor. Gabriel’s character pulls you for a much-needed hug only to deteriorate you into the fetal position.

The world building is so rich and vibrant! The characters that populate the story are a varied bunch each with their own goals and ideals. The vast world-building, lore, faith, symbolisms and complex characters - they need to be told properly.

Cons

When a *presumed* straight male author frequently writes queer women and queer f/f * scenes, i find it disgustingly male gaze-y. Curse words and insults are kindergarten level, and no one poses or thinks like that.

What it is doing structurally is innovative clever and engaging

Finally more than a year later i pulled it down opened the cover and fell in fully immersed

Everything is dramatic big and overblown and the characters are like bitplayers overdoing their lines

I absolutely loved this book devoured it in 3 days and knew it was going to be a long time before the next

All errors were likely due to shipping and handling
