The author has woven into the book some of the struggles women go through while working in predominately male fields giving readers a glimpse of how pell dealt with them and giving the reader the opportunity o think about how they too might deal with these same issues

Interwoven in the story is the paranormal twist and complications being thrown at pell and harpoc the mystical man she also uncovered at the dig site
