At this point esperanza spauldings bass is so fluid and tight alongside guitarist matthew stevens shredding and drummers justin tyson karriem riggins that this core trio enhanced by a variety of backing vocalists and occasional extra musicians pounce on the listeners attention from the albums first notes

With emily that combination has taken a rather sharp turn towards jazzmeetspop highlighting esperanzas often thoughtful philosophical even intellectual lyrics sometimes reminiscent of 70s folk referencing one artist in particular

Anyway nothing against the ramones but sometimes i have an itch and accordingly spalding’s latest album relieves this itch like nothing else could
