    I tried getting by with a cell phone charger and i had a variety of issues including low power warnings crashing and of course the inability to turn off the device without unplugging it

    For some reason the raspberry pi is designed without an off switch so after you turn it off in the operating system the only way to actually turn off is to buy a power supply with an on and off switch
