I have never got anything used from amazon but inside the glass tube is another smaller glass part and that was broken on the original warehouse item

They work just as well as higher priced heaters but would recommend replacing them every 35 years especially if completely submerged as the o ring can fail but that seems to happen with all submersible heaters
