Pros & Cons
Pros
This is my first vice for my shop and i couldn't be happier. Otherwise, great product at an exceptional price.
Kreg bench dogs have a built-in bench dog, a very useful feature. I wish they had included a little scrap of paper with a 1:1 scale drawing of the cutout required for those installing this in an aproned bench (paul sellers style) a bit big for my benc... Read More
There are no instructions, but the installation is quite straightforward. Much easier using plunge cutter & sander to get through 2x4s. Easier to drill pilot bolt holes through to top.
Planning ahead and analyzing your workbench will be rewarded. Bought for a smaller workbench, haven't mounted yet. Omg my whole workshop is now huge!
Cons
Once loosened, the front jaw can only be released by using the quick release. The screw itself is extremely rough and poorly machined. I'd flunk any student who turned in work like this.
Highlights
Quality
I am very pleased with the quality of the eclipse 7 quick release vise
This was one of the better prices for this size in amazon so i am happy with the purchase
I am so happy with the way it grabs the work
Same with the wilton vises i have
Price
I prefer a machined square thread but the cost would have exceeded the budget
Shipping
This was not terribly difficult to do while i had the vise apart to clean off the shipping grease and attach it
Packaging/appearance
My only beef with eclipse is that a short two or three sentence note included in the packaging would have sufficed to clarify t... Read More
The vise works perfectly fine straight out of the box
Competitiveness
The 10inch vise sticks a little when using the quick release i think because of the size and weight of the large vise
If you were to mount on a 2x4s standing vertical the vise will be flush on top
I’ve literally clamped a 10’ 2x6 in this and it didn’t move

A woodworking vice should be just shy of bench height not mounted so the jaws stick up above the work top

Vice itself is very smooth very heavy duty holds work securely and if attached to a heavy bench will not move

I knocked it down one star for the following deficiencies from a woodworkers point of view1 the lead screw is pitted from chatter marks made during machining see photo closeup

This is probably due to vibration during milling and also from using a dull cutting tool edge
