Only negative is the carry bag is cheap as the seams opened during first use when i tried to put the long sticks back in

As for using it as an upright umbrella it is not too tall so would work if setting under it or if you are short

Its relatively easy to open sometimes i need to place the top on the ground and gently open by pushing out from the inside so as not to force the sliding opening mechanism up the shaft when it feels like its sticking
