I had the older temp shades with the drawstring. The sun eventually caused the vinyl shade to crumble and fall apart. Those shades were discontinued so I wanted something that was as simple to install . These are installed just the same. You can cut the shade to fit with a razor cutter or big knife. Fits inside the window frame and sticks at the top of the frame with a peel off adhesive strip. No strings all you have to do is lift from the bottom to raise the shade or pull down to where ever you need it to stop. Don't know how that works but it is smooth and easy to operate. The shade looks much better than the old model and I am quite pleased with the look of the pleated shades.  Read Less
