After removing and reinstalling many times, putting in fresh batteries, nothing seemed to work.

But taking the cartridge out and looking at it, i saw that there is a roller (see my finger in the picture) that was black.

I tried to see if it was jammed and in doing so realized that the roller was actually wrapped by the black tape from the old cartridge.
