Pros & Cons
Pros
Through their eyes, we see what is happening on surebleak which is going through a major change in society and culture. Focused on the korval clan continuing and deepening its subversion of the planet. As always with clan korval, they live in interest... Read More
The characters feel like my friends, and the authors' fondness for them is clear, giving these books a cumulative sweetness that is very addictive. It's a wonderful read which left me champing at the bit for the next one.
Themes include civilization and lawlessness; implacable enemies and luck. I would urge you to begin at the beginning of the saga (by internal chronology, not by the order in which they were published) as always, i wonder how much the authors have plot... Read More
New reader is catered for by a slightly greater than usual amount of backstory. It wanders a little, but is still eminently readable.
Cons
Same * relationships would be the norm in a future society. I assure the authors, that the only ones still reading this sadly diminishing series, are already familiar.
Highlights
Quality
Lee and miller do an excellent job of staying with the characters they have introduced in previous stories
Life continues and the plot allows a reader to keep up with the characters
It does stand alone if this is your first experience with the liaden universe
Probably not a good place to start reading in the liaden universe but satisfying for those already familiar with the players
Shipping
This one is good but not as fast paced as most
Competitiveness
But a newbie cant start at book 18 you would be lost

Two better starting points might be either conflict of honors or necessitys child

Otherwise a large part of the action and most of the internal references will go right over your head and you’ll be the poorer for it
