The reservoir isn't vast, but our 65 lbs dog takes a week to fill it. That height is to accommodate two things - a sloped under-tray that leads to a drain (opening) at the lowest point, and a slide-out tray that captures the urine. No smell.

My dog is a stubborn 9yr old beagle. We dont have an out door water hose, that's why we had to put a training pad under the grass. My pups are 8 weeks old and are pretty much house trained.

The plastic tray slides out smoothly (not wobbly or jerky), which is good, because i didn't have any issues with pee sloshing. The actual plastic pieces are thick and sturdy and well made.

The turf holds up well, does shed a little bit but nothing to get annoyed of. All turf is like this anyways. Pointer uses big fake grass to this day on a outside deck.

Would not recommend for potty training. Starting pups to use it is best, not older dogs. The drain tray is of a baking pan design causing spillage over the edges. It all spills.

My dog's paws smell of urine and must be cleaned. I have to rinse the grass yet the smell just stays. Then to use pee pads and throw them away all the time.
