The curved trough provides a smooth nail on top, tip and underside of your nail. The groove allows for almost foolproof filing. There is a very slight lip along one edge which keeps the fingernail from slipping off the file.

There is a groove in the moon shape

Unfortunately mine came with a small defect probably during the final qc step as my images show a very small chip is evident at a most unfortunate location causing my return of the product however i will purchase a replacement

Looking at the images closely one can see grinding on both sides of the file and one side has the small chip
