The stop on the clip is heavy thick steel when when the door opens it moves back into the trim around the door frame

The trim is already set back from the frame to leave a 14 reveal

More modern door trim products that taper and thin out on the side that is near the hinge pin probably wouldnt have this problem

The house were in has door stops on the hinge pin that are digging into the wood and frame of the door
