Pros

Not the most engaging or exciting of books, but personable and relatively easy for a layman. While rooted in science the book isn't difficult to read.

John bradshaw lays out a good argument for his theory on how wolves turned into man's best friend. Bradshaw debunks the wolf pack-dominance model of dogs quite effectively. He also explores how we have created misconceptions about dogs.

A good summary of what is currently known and not known about dogs. This book explains just how adapted and dependent they have become as a result of connecting to us.

The most responsible dog owners usually neuter their pets so these companion dogs do not get to pass on their genetics. Taking a young dog to obedience training class exposes the dog to other dogs and people as well as teaching it important commands. ...  Read More

    Despite a subtitle of how the new science of dog behavior can make you a better friend to your pet there isnt much in the way of specific advice regarding how to actually be said better friend

    Except in rare cases physical punishment of a dog is counterproductive as it creates a less trusting less bonded more anxious animal
