Pros & Cons

Pros

The red side grit is perfect for knives that are slightly dull. The green side hones them to a perfect, razor sharp edge. It makes sharpening a pleasure rather than a chore. These are easy and sharpen fast.

Keep one in every bugout bag or rucksack. For what i need them for, it's certainly a more economical decision. Would also be great to take backpacking or in an emergency bag, especially if combined with a course/fine combo.

Cons

The qc on this product *. It was not inspected before shipping; an error in manufacturing. It should have ended up in their scrap tub.

The diamond grits all came loose and fell out after about 6 sharpening's. The folding handles/covers and the supports on which the diamond mesh is laminated are cheap feeling/looking plastic. The hinges are little rolls of metal pressed into the holes...  Read More

This sharpener dulls my knives instead of sharpening them. It has zero grit left after about 6 uses on blades all under 4 inches.

Quality

Once the reprofiling is done my normal means of sharpening can take over and bring the screaming sharp edge back to life

This puts a very good edge on all of my knives

Could be used with water for lube quality and ease

Very light pressure works best with a few added strokes across the surface instead of digging the blade into the surface

Competitiveness

I also like the broad surface of this sharpener as it is less likely to slide off the tip of the blade which may dull such tip...  Read More

You do have to be careful not to overuse the coarse side it will wear down your blade eventually

A moderate buy but with caution to hard use

If you sharpen your knives along the existing factory edge angle eventually you might find that the blade seems to refuse to get really sharp anymore

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

That experience is more likely if the factory edge came with a relatively obtuse angle as is the case with some of my pocket knives

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

That’s because repeated sharpening along such edge angle is liable to make the cutting edge even more obtuse

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Since i strongly prefer to keep my knives very sharp such changes in the edge angle and the consequent loss of sharpenability initially were disconcerting to me to the extent that i almost wrote off the knives in question as lemons in terms of heat treat

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Eventually it dawned on me that such blades may need to have their cutting edges reprofiled into a more acute angle
