This sharpener is one sided and while the magnet does still work with this sharpener it does not stick very securely because there is no metal of the side opposite the sharpening surface

The main downside of this particular model of dmt diamond plate is that its kinda small

Its not that you cannot sharpen things with water stones or oil stones or even wetdry sandpaper glued to a piece of glass

But these stay flat they last longer theyll work with any or no lubricant they dont need to be soaked in anything and you cant accidentally change their grit by contaminating with the wrong abrasive or at any rate the contamination can removed by the simple expedient of washing it off
