You have to cover bare metal like your lathe chuck with tape and then the reflective tape to get stable readings

Sticky reflective sensor tape doesnt hold in high rpm and oily environments

Had to scape off adhesive and epoxy the reflective tape directly to rotating things

You simply adhere a small piece of reflective material to a rotating piece of the engine turn it on push hold the button to take a reading and point the laser at the reflective material
