Both familiar and strange the author synthesizes a number of different cultures but its impossible to name just one place or time as her source and that lends mystery and exoticism to the narrative

Like any good allegory todays issues are on display but in a clever disguise we get a heroine whose aspirations are challenged by her sex and her desert origins as well as her mothers mysterious yet similar past
