I have five of these and my family has been travelling nonstop for almost two years now not a single one of these has broken or had any issues even though they are on average doing transpacific or transatlantic flights every two or three months with shorter flights inbetween

If this suitcase is lying right side up so that you can read the lock combination you would of course open the top side

The zippered cover should be on the top side

This does get knicked up do if you want the product in luggage i would suggest not this linecolor as it will knick up slight and show white

I would highly recommend this suitcase as absolutely nothing is showing signs of wear other than the scuff marks on the outside probably from being thrown around on planes
