Pros & Cons
Cons
There was to much ‘lucky happenings’ and flowery filler text. Just way too long. Numerous pages describing bad stuff happening of the tiring, soap-opera kind. This is the only time i've seen a highly rated, apparently award-winning book, that made me ... Read More
Maybe there is a decent story here somewhere, but it is buried under robotic, moronic dialogue. The first one is believable but how are we supposed to buy that a master marshall did not spot the trap with the soldiers but a 12 year old apprentice did?... Read More
Character development is nonexistent. It's as if the author midway through decided his hero needed to have a detrimental character flaw. The author expects all of us to embrace his poor little child hero for succumbing to the whoa of *, because it was... Read More
Author does not practice the philosophy of showing things to your readers rather than shoving it down their throats. Spends pages on pointless minutia that doesn't propel the story.

Highlights
Quality
This book is well crafted in cadence and flow as well as variety of word choice and quality of description
The world building is great as well and there are enough twists and turns on the lovely tropes of this genre that they feel fresh
Its long but the pacing is great and never feels slow or muddy
Otherwise character development is excellent and realistic and compelling
Packaging/appearance
I got thoroughly wrapped up in the story
Competitiveness
I personally enjoyed this more than brandon sandersons books and would rate it close to robert jordans wheel of time series
