Pros

The pans are massive. See the attached pic with a quarter for scale. I prefer my watercolors in pans so having a set of such nice gouache in pans as well really completes my watercolor kit. Most travel kits have half pans to improve portability.

The carandache gouache set is by far the nicest of them all. All products represent the top range, for all of you passionate about art.

It's not quite as opaque as acrylic gouache but it's definitely workable. These paints are not as chalky and opaque as standard high-end gouache. I like how bright some of these paints are, but they are difficult to mix in the palette.

The vibrancy of the color is fabulous. They are rich, robust and fully pigmented. The colors are vibrant in application and when layering, you to see through the layers.

Caran d'ache is big on minimally impacting the environment. It's perfect for painting anywhere including plein air. The metal palette is rather large and mine came dented, it still functions though and the paints were unharmed.

Cons

The caran d'ache gouache is in no way worth the money. Color mix is muddy. My old himi set is far better. These are more or less watercolor.

I love this set because it is convenient and the colors mix nicely plus the quality cant be beat

However i am new to gouache so i can’t tell you too much about the quality of these until i am more familiar with gouache

The quality of the paint isnt necessarily the best for just a little more money you can buy professional paints

The colors are overall very opaque especially when mixed with the white

The price is exceptional for this quality brand made in geneva switzerland since 1915 so they know what theyre doing

I would think this would have cost double the price honestly

The price i paid for this set was approximately 4045 and for the quality you’ll be getting i’d say that this price is quite reasonable

Shipping

The tin did have a dent in the corner from shipping but it opens and closes just fine so no worries

Packaging/appearance

While it is not a perfect size for traveling i still like the packaging it feels really nice quality

In addition the color selection matches other mediums in the caran dache line including their supracolor pencils and neocolor 2 crayons

The clear plastic piece meant to protect the brush’s fibers had bent some of the bristles
