Yes the ties are not sewn on but that is a quick fix or my kids were just tying it to the pole when the umbrella was up

I doubt the higher priced umbrellas were of any better quality because they all had bad reviews concerning pole or mechanism breakage

Be warned any 11 foot umbrella will not withstand very high winds
