Engagingly written, the exact opposite of a slog. Written with a great sense of humor, this is a fun and informative read for anyone who speaks publicly or aspires to.
If there is one takeaway from the book - it is the importance of practice, practice and more practice. The bad applying these rules always takes more time.
Teaching is a compassionate act. It's rare to achieve this balance, but it's what makes a teacher great. Teaching is about making people smarter and more competent at what they do. Know your audience before a lecture.
Finding and simplifying insights requires humility. It's an easy problem to have, since fixing it is a simple, fail-safe way to make all of your presentations better. To have substance is more important than fancy slides with no deep points.
Cons
Scott recommends you practice each speech 4 times, which is certainly good advice, but impractical for an instructor. It lacks the thought and organization to convey what makes a good presentation and how to do it.
