Computational Drawing is a wonderfully stealthy design manifesto that feels both shorter and longer than its visually-packed 290 pages. I highly recommend this book to everyone, particularly if you work in any type of contemporary design field.On a superficial level - the book is solid and well-crafted, with a provocative and simple cover, quality medium-weight paper, and completely filled edge-to-edge with beautiful abstract drawings (codings?). This is the rare book that would be equally appropriate for a design studio library reference, a philosophy class reading list, a personal summer beach reading, and a vanity coffee table statement piece.Compared to other academic authors writing about computational design, Lostritto has an easy-to-follow style of writing, which was extremely helpful for me personally. The structure of the book starts with a thoughtful discussion on the nature of drawing and coding, with a sprinkling of historical context and references. The middle portions of the book veer into strong critiques of frivolous digital and analog design practices, and the writing ends with a robust defense of creative drawing. Each chapter is densely illustrated with full-page drawings that pop with color and pattern.As a practicing architect, I personally appreciated Computational Drawing on two levels: firstly, as a deeper reflection on the nature of drawing - something we designers often do, but take for granted; and secondly, the book's drawings and writings illustrate a pattern language that feels appropriate for our time, and serves as visual inspiration for ideas yet to come.  Read Less
