Pros & Cons

Pros

Every part of the lantern seems very solidly built (a rare phenomenon these days). The weaknesses are a throwback to a simpler time, and they allow you to build a relationship with your gear.

These are the best liquid fuel powered lanterns on the market, in my opinion. For high-powered lanterns, white gas seems to be the most cost-effective option. The lantern is also capable of burning unleaded pump gasoline. Much cheaper to run than a pr...  Read More

For minimalist backpacking-style camping, a good quality headlamp is the way to go. Something about the hiss of a coleman lantern makes a camping trip much more memorable. Coleman is an american icon of camping equipment, reasonably priced.

Light output is strong; i have no reason to doubt 800 lumens of brightness using coleman #21 mantles (yttrium type) uses very little fuel and is very bright. Liquid fuel and hissing sound of the lantern bring me back to family camping trips as a child...  Read More

Cons

Highly disappointing. It was exchanged for a new one. I doubt these 2 dents will effect operational ability. But who wants a dent in a new item.

Quality

Typical american quality i love this lantern

Colman needs to work on quality control but i would buy it again and recommend this lantern

At that point i just decided to live with the imperfection

However i feel coleman’s quality control is not up to the level i remember

Price

Every time i would get ready to push the button to buy this lantern they sold out or the price whent up but finally ordered one

Gas doesnt cost much here about 2

However like everything these days i think the price is a bit high but then i am saying the same thing about everything i buy these days

Packaging/appearance

I store it in the carboard box it came in

Competitiveness

Wanted one all my lifegreat product at a great price

I do burn only gasoline in mine no fancy white gas which some may argue will clog the generator faster

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Maybe true but i have run way more tanks of gas on one generator than than the cost of white gas would justify given the cost of a generator

Oh you can buy a petromax or a britelyte mantle lantern but youre gonna pay a boatload more money for no more capability

However if not or if an accident happens one isnt bankrupted

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Theres nothing quite like the whispering hiss of a white gas lantern in operation

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

Theyre reasonably fuel efficient and though harder to light than the propane version and definitely harder to use than a battery powered led lantern theres still something to be said for the kind of atmosphere and quality of light that these put off

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

It cant be said that either propane or white gas are particularly environmentally friendly but the one advantage is that a white gas lantern in particular is refillable essentially ondemand from a very recyclable can whereas the propane models tend to use the disposable canisters that are hard to recycle—not to mention difficult to tell how full they are and generally not refillable unless you purchase refillable models and the refilling kits

I end up carrying around several partially empty containers all the time and thats terribly annoying and spacewasting
