City of lies is a historical suspense set in 1917, mainly in new york. The book transports us back to 1917 as we meet elizabeth miles at the start of a con job. Thompson shares an engaging tale about a woman who’s running a grift with her brother.
A great read for those needing an escape from the pandemic turmoil. I must admit, i’m not quite sure where the series will go from here.
Cons
No charter development, thin plot, mostly unsympathetic characters or totally characterless. In the gaslight books you had a real feel for the city of new york; here it is merely a place. Gullibility, inconsistent feminist messages etc.
