The service contract is required to download any updates as ios 11 and lower do not have support for dhcp that most consumer isps support

Blows my mind that cisco doesnt still make these theyre great for creating a home lab for the ccnaccnp and there arent a terrible lot of comparable current generation offerings from cisco that are affordable on a nonbusiness budget which are also rackmountable and include ios

Just be prepared to maybe to have to do a password recovery on your router when you receive it
