We both have motorola moto g phones and all that is necessary is to grip slightly off center in order to avoid the gripper depressing the volume control

This thing works really well it sticks to the dash of my car and secures the phone even during rigorous riding

Oh speaking of rigorous riding this product is great for multitasking it’ll stick to just about anything it’ll even keep your phone from sliding off your girlfriends back while engaging in certain unmentionable activities but a word of advice it works best stuck between the shoulder blades just about at the base of her neck it does not stick to hairy or overly curved surfaces like the back of heads and stuff just fyi
