After a few days i did order seagate 1tb external hard drive.

With the seagate, i received audio dropout while the dvr was trying to playback and record.

Once i switched to the toshiba drive that channel master says is the only supported hard drive (the 1tb toshiba ehd ( hdtb310xk3aa) - which is available on amazon - search for the model number), the problem went away.
