It seems you have to have the stock apple connector placed perfectly in the zif adapter

The zif adapter is wider than the orange apple cable and if the ribbon is a slight bit off the ipod will not recognize memory

It needs a crossover cable contacts on one end on top and other end on the bottom not both on the same side

I took a different route i removed the blue plastic strip on one end and carefully bent the contacts back 180 degrees about 18 inch from the end

I verified that all of the pins were making contact with a multimeter
