It would only work with the code that was last set in the fan these fans do not have code switches built into them as the documentation suggests for pairing you are supposed to be able to hold the light button for 10 seconds or so within the first 30 seconds that the fan is powered on to reset it this worked with the original remotes but not with the replacements maybe an issue with the fan  Read Less
