I have a lineup of rollers fastened to the narrow edge of a scrap 2x4 the 2x4 is then clamped to a portable workbenchvise for example the blackdecker workmate

Unless the bearings operate smoothly in all directions the wood can get steered away from its intended path causing binding of the saw blade at worst and burn marks on the wood at best
