Pros

Carter & lovecraft is a police detective turned pi dime novel. The characters of carter and lovecraft are well-drawn. A nice, ahem, twist, on lovecraftian themes.

The story is completely believable and is easy to read. The characters are well developed, the plot is fluid and coherent. Pretty nifty storytelling.

Quality

Howard has a lot of fun with the language here

The story kept with the tenets of the old gods yet plied the modern day genre if the detective story

Except for the authors tendency to interject unnecessary big words

It’s not the best of books in any of these classes but the combination works for me

Competitiveness

The story was true to lovecraftiana while deftly sticking a thumb in the eye of lovecrafts racism

This book wildly exceeds lovecrafts own literary ability
