Pros & Cons
Pros
This catcher is good, a little flimsy so if capturing a spider you just hope it can't squeeze through small gaps as this doesn't shut completely flush. But overall it's a great system for capturing and looking at bugs.
Bought this for my 5yo granddaughter. His seven year old brother is jealous. My grandson loves this and uses it all the time.
Good quality and a simple ergonomic design. Durability seems really good as we were picking up the occasional rock. The only downside is that the bottom is flimsy and doesn't stay in place.
Good magnification just wish you did not have to hold the light button on all the time when inspecting small things. Focus wheel works well and is accurate so long as you keep the carson and the subject still.
Cons
The magnifier gives a distorted view of where the insects actually are. It just flaps about rendering the device useless. If you are looking for something to inspire, i would steer clear.
Highlights
Quality
The optics are good the led light works well the whole thing feels robust and it could be carried easily on a country walk
It works really well and gives enough magnification to see astonishing details in everything from carpets to bugs
So many microscopes for children are flimsy and fiddly offering impractical magnifications that attract but are virtually unusable
The magnifying glass and whistle are handy the torch is ok but the compass and clock feel a bit superfluous
Competitiveness
Its a lot better than a more conventional microscope which weve found hard to use and easy to break
