Our furnace has a toonarrow hole to slide this in and filters from ace and home depot have bent and ripped up their cardboard frames

While i can’t accurately measure the change in air flow i do have wifi thermostats that give me a history of daily usage

The merv rating scale ranges from 116 the higher the number the smaller stuff it traps

If the filter is too think than it will restrict airflow which is not good for our unit

Low airflow also means the unit has to work harder which costs more money

If the filer is too thin it will let debris into the system causing costly repairs and they also don’t filter out some of the allergens leaving our air quality less than optimal

But the cheaper ones i normally buy are flimsy and are only rated a merv 6

You can see that there appear to be less pleats that some other brands and the media material doesnt look very thick
