It is a smooth plastic feel, slippery, not ergonomic at all. Very painful if you have arthritis or even if your hands are greasy from cooking. Should have lasted much longer for the price i paid for it.

Its almost as if you need to reverse turn in to start and end

So safe it is cutting the cover from the side and the edge not sharp also you can use the same lid after opening again to cover the can in side the fridge
