It works by sending a signal from the transmit side of the tester through the attached cable and displays what pins the signal is received on at the other end of the cable

The signal is sent from pin 1 to pin n where nnumber of pins in the connector sequentially

The only reason i did not give 5 stars was the 1st shipped unit has a bad speed knob the distributor replaced it with a 2nd unit and all worked fine
