When the hookandloop fastener is undone the plastic end on the band prevents either end of the band from separating from the watch

So to get you watch to your wrist your hand needs to fit through the loop the band makes with the watch

Initially it was tight getting the watch over my hand

Unless you have a real small hand there is little chance the watch will fall off if the hookandloop fastener disengages

For both bands one notch was too big the other too tight and i never got the fit i wanted

Garmin use to make one for the 910xt that was similar but did not have that option for the 920 model
