After spending time searching the internet we learned that there is a thermostat inside and the settings were at the hottest setting sent that way from the factory

It would have been nice if it came with instructions on how to adjust thermostat for high altitude as it didnt work properly and had to call the company for instructions which took about half an hour to get to the right person

I know i didnt believe that either but multiple people on several websites claimed those cheep water tank are the cause
