    The micro-textured plastic surface of buildtak has a glittering, almost crystalline look to it when brightly illuminated while viewed from directly above.

    Any marring of that textured appearance by, for instance, shiny spots or shiny lines means that you are damaging the surface permanently, probably by extruding too close to the bed or by damaging the surface with a print removal tool.

    In my case, there's a very tiny shiny dot where my printer does its auto-leveling calibration at the center of the print bed.

    I just leave the thread on the spool, unwinding enough each time, winding it back on the spool when done.
