Pros

Laser is sharper than inkjet, more professional looking and doesn't ever smear.

Works great for scanning, faxing, printing, copying. Stand-alone fax is fast and sends very legible docs. Copier is one-touch and output looks great. Uses fax feeder or flat bed copier.

The flatbed cover hinges raise over 1 inch for book scanning. Though the laser is b&w, the scanner is 24bit color up to 9600x9600. The software opens on my desktop.

The mfc 9700 prints over usb to a windows 2000 & win 98se (dual boot) i also have the unit hooked up thru usb to my macintosh g3 b&w (upgraded to g4-450 w/ panther) one complaint is that the paperport software is windows only-bummer!

Cons

The mfc-9700 is disappointing for several reasons. The user interface is significantly more difficult to use. Mfc promises to enable pc-fax, but in practice the pc-fax software is so clumsy. Printer works ok, but after upgrading to windows 7 64 bit os... Read More
