Plug required, heats in center, uses as a blanket on lap and opening draped to the sides. Using a plug to heat the center of the device, the heat is transferred to the lap.
Cons
It's a shame it was engineered so poorly. This item is more of a blanket than a poncho.

Onto the blanket itself it is soft and the split down the middle is what allows this blanket to be wearable

I dont feel a huge difference among the various levels but id rather have the wearable function even if the heat is not always even
