The problem with most wide shoes is that the shoe might be wide enough around the ball of the foot but then the sides angle too sharply toward the big toe

I have never had a better fitting shoe not even new balance when they used to fit ok 20 years ago

The shoe is wide enough not only at the ball of the foot but it does not angle too quickly back towards the toes
