I have several heirloom boye hooks i inherited, and the quality is superior. I also have some cheap generic hooks, and there is no question, the hooks in this kit are better.
There are some who have complained that after crocheting for a while with the steel hooks in this set, they've experienced discoloration and even snagging and chipping. These are also basic crochet hooks, which some may find fatiguing, even painful.

If this occurs during the middle of a project for example while crocheting an afghan it can create consistency issues

However with this set if you find your stitches are loosening up you can maintain consistency by switching out to a smaller hook tightening the stitches back up

Those who do not find this case adequate as a first project you may wish to consider creating your own because i havent seen reasonably priced ones i consider significantly better
