To me it looks like someone had tried reforming the plastic by melting it. The bits on inspection all look unused. After a few drill into wood, the boring part of the shank starts to wear out.

I recommend making pilot holes for your screws since it will prevent your screw from misalignment

Yes if i were to do more elaborate woodwork then there are much better one at 60 for 1
