The passive mode basically turns these into closed headphones

Passive mode does have its uses when in close quarters as in amplified mode the sound is audible to others who are close enough

They seem to have an open headphone design which does allow for a wider sound stage when in amplified mode rather than restricting it to the confines of your ear

The boom box mode allows others to hear what you’re listening to pretty well and offers some bass but is not at the same level when in amplified mode

It also comes with phone cord wmic that allows you to answer your calls with these headphones
