Pros

It does work better in a darker environment obviously, but you just need to get much closer to the surface you are checking. It's very bright! It works great and is super bright.

It takes 3 aa batteries, but i can't speak to battery life at this point since i just received it. Already i am treating areas the cats have sprayed and working on removing that odor.

Cons

Caveat emptor. The light gradually fads out every minute or less. Batteries last maybe half an hour before the light dims significantly.
