Pros
It's perhaps overlong, but the main story is rolled out meticulously over 400+ pages. A mixture of the truly occult with complete charlatan-ery. The world of the psychics is another form of life and living, and all under a cloak of normalcy.
The writing is fabulous and the sense of place is absolutely spot on. Wonderfully written.
Cons
If this is meant to be some sort of glimpse of the afterlife then it is certainly depressing. Hilary mantel is a very gifted writer and i love her work, but this book needed editing badly.
